Haines City, Florida, is a growing city in Polk County, nestled midway between Tampa and Orlando. Known as the “Heart of Florida,” it offers residents easy access to major highways like US‑27 and I‑4, along with attractions like Lake Eva Park and Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club
Founded in 1885 as “Clay Cut” after the arrival of the South Florida Railroad, the city was later renamed Haines City to honor railroad official Colonel Henry Haines. Incorporated as a town in 1914 and as a city in 1925, Haines City developed rapidly around citrus groves and processing plants, becoming a regional agricultural hub. Historic landmarks include St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, the Polk Hotel, and the Old Central Grammar School, all on the National Register of Historic Places.
In the 1970s, Circus World theme park briefly branded the area as an entertainment destination. Today, new residential growth is fueled by the city’s proximity to Orlando and major economic opportunities.
