Greenacres, Florida, is a centrally-located city in Palm Beach County, known for its family-friendly vibe and diverse suburban living. With about 6 square miles of land and nearly 44,000 residents (2020), it ranks among the larger municipalities in the county. Greenacres was founded by Lawrence Carter Swain, who in the early 1920s acquired roughly 1,000 acres to develop an affordable community for middle-class residents. It was first incorporated as “Greenacres City” on May 24, 1926. After suffering two destructive hurricanes in 1926-28, and disincorporation in 1945, it was re-incorporated in 1947. It experienced significant population and residential growth from the 1970s onward. In 1990, residents voted to change its official name to simply “City of Greenacres.”
Greenacres blends mature trees, parks, accessible services, and suburban convenience—all close to West Palm Beach and Florida’s east coast—making it a solid choice for those seeking an affordable, well-located community in South Florida.
