Black Diamond is a census-designated place in Citrus County, Florida, located near Lecanto in the west-central part of the state. The community is known primarily for Black Diamond Ranch, a gated residential golf community situated among wooded landscapes and the rolling terrain of Florida’s Nature Coast. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, Black Diamond had a population of 1,255 residents and covered approximately 3.94 square miles.
The development of Black Diamond Ranch began in 1987, following the acquisition of the property and planning of its golf facilities during the 1980s. The community’s landscape incorporates natural elevation changes, mature trees, and areas shaped by earlier limestone quarrying. Its location distinguishes it from many other Florida golf communities, where the terrain is generally flatter.
Black Diamond Ranch features three golf courses: the 18-hole Quarry Course, the 18-hole Ranch Course, and the nine-hole Highlands Course. Designed by golf course architect Tom Fazio, the courses form a central part of the community’s recreational identity. Additional facilities include a clubhouse, dining areas, fitness facilities, tennis courts, and swimming amenities.
Residential properties include a range of home styles and sizes within smaller neighborhood sections. Nearby Lecanto provides access to shopping, healthcare, schools, restaurants, and other services, while Crystal River and Inverness offer additional destinations throughout Citrus County.
With its established residential setting, golf facilities, wooded surroundings, and convenient regional connections, Black Diamond represents a distinctive planned community in Florida’s Nature Coast.
