Carrollwood, Florida, a vibrant CDP in northwestern Hillsborough County just 9 mi north‑northwest of Downtown Tampa, blends mid‑century charm with modern conveniences. Home to over 34,000 residents across Carrollwood and Carrollwood Village, it’s prized for its scenic lakes, family‑friendly parks, and seamless Tampa Bay access.
Originally planned in 1959 by Sun State Homes around Lake Carroll, the community saw rapid growth through the 1960s and ’70s. For the 1990 census, Greater Carrollwood was split into the Carrollwood and Carrollwood Village CDPs, covering 10.27 sq mi of land and 1.05 sq mi of water. Its legacy includes an F4 tornado on April 4, 1966, part of a Central Florida outbreak that reshaped local preparedness.
