New Construction in Big Pine Key
Monroe County and the Monroe County Housing Authority broke ground in 2023 on a project to rebuild 12 two-bedroom, one-bathroom single-family affordable rental homes on Big Pine Key. The homes are being constructed in phases to hurricane standards, elevated above flood risk, and built to Florida Green Building Standards, with the first unit targeted for move-in readiness by the end of 2023 and additional units becoming available throughout 2024. Separately, the Florida Keys Community Land Trust has completed the Seahorse and The Avenues developments in Big Pine Key, delivering 31 two-bedroom units for working families. These units are elevated above anticipated future flood levels, with several featuring elevators for accessibility. Families have recently moved into the completed homes, and the projects serve the local affordable housing needs in the area.
